Environmental Day 2023 -2024
Environmental protection, the need of the hour was seen reflected in our campus as well on the 5th of June. Chief Guests of the day Mr. S Jayakumar, Agricultural Officer and Mr. Nibu A.N, Agricultural Assistant addressed the students and teachers. A sapling was planted by our Principal along with Mrs. Mathangi Sreenivasan and Mrs. Sheela Ramachandran, amidst the rhythmic melodies sung by a team of students. An open Poster making competition, Quiz competition, Cleaning Drive and Garden making by the students in school campus made the day meaningful.
Reading Day and Reading Week –2023 -2024
Reading week celebrations was observed in St. Thomas Higher Secondary School in honour of Shri. P.N. Panicker from June 19th to June 23rd, 2023 to create a culture of reading and inspire students to discover the power of books. The week witnessed an array of Book review presentation by the students of Classes 5 to 12 during the School Assembly. Students were motivated to read a certain number of books within a specified time frame. To promote class libraries, students were encouraged to contribute books and magazines during the month.
Club Inauguration and Yoga Day-2023 -2024
To unlock the hidden talents, passions and potentials within each student, STHSS witnessed a significant milestone as it inaugurated a host of vibrant and engaging clubs for the academic year 2023-24, like Social Science Club, Work Experience Club, Quiz Club, Literary and Dramatics, Information Technology, Economics and Anti Narcotics Club. This momentous occasion was held at School Auditorium on 21st June 2023. To mark the International Day of Yoga, there was a display of Yoga by the students of Classes 7 to 12. Ms. Arielle Varghese, a Hotel Management graduate was the Guest for the Day, and she motivated the students to embrace their passions by her unique way of storytelling.
International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking – 2023 -2024
An awareness programme was convened by the Narcotics Club on 26th June, 2023 in connection with the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking.
The session was led by Dr.P.K. Sreekumar, Deputy Drug Controllor (RTD), Kerala. Mr. Baiju A. Inspector of Police , Mannanthala Station, also shared his views. The programme was conducted in association with the Trivandrum Platinum Lions Club.
Investiture Ceremony 2023 -2024
Investiture Ceremony conducted on 20th July 2023, witnessed the swearing in of the School leaders, pledging their readiness to discharge their duties with sincerity and dedication. Rev. Shibu O Plavilla, was the Chief Guest of the ceremony. Selected representatives were presented with badge and epaualette by the Chief Guest, Principal and teachers.
STHSS Youth Festival –2023 -2024
An ambience of cheer descended upon our campus when the entire school gathered in the open stage for the annual Youth Festival 2023-2024, inaugurated by Mr. Biju Kalavedi, a renowned film artist on July 26th. Youth Festival events were held on the 26thand 27thof July 2023. Red House bagged the first prize. 🏆
40th Annual Athletic Meet 2023-2024
The Marthoma Stadium became vibrant on the 9th and 10th of August 2023, with our students competing in a variety of events for the 40th Annual Athletic Meet. Miss. Tiji Raju, Sri. Udayakumar Memorial awardee 2016 for the best volley ball player in India, declared the meet open following a colourful parade by the NCC, Band and the four Houses. Our Treasurer, Shri. Cherian Varghese delivered the keynote address followed by a heartwarming message by Miss. Tiji Raju, Guest of the day. Our Secretary, Mr. Mathew George was the guest for the closing ceremony. Green House bagged the first prize. The event embodied the zeal, talent and spirit of sportsmanship of the students!!🏌️♀️🤸♂️
Independence Day -2023
The 77th Independence Day Celebrations was hosted by our school at Mar Thoma Stadium on 15th August 2023. The Chief Guest for the day was Shri. Achuth Sankar, Director, Centre for Bioinformatics, University of Kerala. It was celebrated with much enthusiasm and jubilation. All the three schools participated in the March past. Various programmes like Patriotic band performance, display and patriotic dance were held.
Onam Celebrations 2023
Onam, the Harvest festival of Kerala was celebrated in the campus with much gaiety and warmth on August 25th in the open stage. The Chief Guest Sri. Gireesh Pulliyoor, the renowned poet and artist, enthralled our students with his captivating message and talk. The Boat Song sung in the background of the Snake Boat, the traditional Chenda Vadhya Melam, Musical Band, the melodious singing of Onam numbers by teachers and students, Musical chair, Tug of War, the intricately decorated ‘Pookkalam- Niravu ’ , everything put together reflected a perfect cultural ambience for the day.
All Kerala Quiz for the Secretary’s Trophy 2023
The All Kerala Quiz Competiton for the Secretary’s Trophy proved an engaging interactive, intellectual forum for the thirteen city schools with the quiz master Dr. Shafi Thomson quizzing the target audience in his self composed, fine tuned manner. 8 teams made it to the finals. St. Thomas Residential School, Mukkolakkal lifted the coveted trophy on September 14th . Sarvodaya Central Vidyalaya, Nalanchira and St. Mary’s Central School, Poojapura bagged second and third positions. The winners were awarded the trophy by our Treasurer Shri. Cherian Varghese.
Annual School Exhibition -2023
Going beyond the confines of the class room, The Annual School Exhibition held on the 30th of October 2023, exhibited the brilliance of creativity of our students in Social Science, Mathematics, Science, Art and Craft categories
Picnics, Visits and Club Activities -2023
In connection with World Space week, a talk on Space was led by Mr. Nallaperumaal, senior ISRO Scientist on 5-10-2023 at Juhanon Auditorium. Our children also visited Space Museum, VSSC, Thumba and witnessed the Rocket Launch on 6.10.2023.. The activities incorporated in the Academic Calendar on behalf of the Maths, Painting, Work Experience, Home Science and Eco clubs, did boost the morale of our students
Children’s Day -2023
Children’s Day Celebration was unique this year, Alina P Kunnath( Class 5) was the Chacha Nehru on stage this time. Our children performed several variety entertainment programmes like Group Dance, Group Song, Solo Music etc and made the day unforgettable by paying tribute to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru , the first Prime Minister of India. Live Jam, a Music band conducted a Musical show in the open stage of our school.
40th Annual Day 2023-2024
40th Annual Day (2023-2024) of our school was held on 27 th November 2023 at 4.30 pm. The Annual Day function was inaugurated by Chief Guest Shri. N P Giri , Former GSLV Project Director- ISRO, Government of India. The Secretary of MTCES, Shri. Mathew George, the School Chaplain and Boarding Superintendent, Rev. Mathew K John, PTA President, Mr. Shibu Scaria, Principals and heads of other sister institutions of MTCES graced the occasion by their presence. The Chief Guest along with our Secretary and School Chaplain gave away prizes for the school toppers of 2022-2023 and other prize winning students. The Annual Report of the academic year 2023-24 was presented by Principal Dr.(Mrs) Lizu Verghis. Our Principal, presented a momento to the Chief Guest designed by Smt. Priya A P (Arts and Crafts teacher). Students of STHSS made us proud by performing dance, skits, drama and other variety entertainment programs. The conveners of the school day program Smt. Manjula Devi and Smt. Anila Mathew along with all Staff worked hard to make the function a great success.
Christmas Day -2022
The boundless joy of celebrating Christmas was well reflected on all faces on the 8th of December 2022. The senior students channelized their creativity in setting up the crib, the Christmas tree, and an open air tent, to accommodate ‘The Nativity Scene’. Students across levels sang Carols and performed special shows. A very meaningful message exhorting the students to be like guiding stars, and stay untouched by the strongholds of society by Rev. Anoop Sam, CSI Church, Valiathura, added essence to the yuletide celebrations.
Counselling and Career Guidance -2022
Counselling and Career Guidance, two integral services of our school offer extensive support in the overall development of our students. The School Counsellor Mrs Hannah equips our students in dealing with the academic, social,personal pressures in life and develop realistic, academic and personal goals through regular Life Skill sessions. The series of webinars and career counselling sessions organised by the Career Care Unit, under the guidance of Mrs Betty Ninan George, enlightened our students with the interests, aspirations, aptitudes and abilities required in pursuing various career goals. The following were the webinars organised for the current academic year.
1. Webinar on civil service preparation conducted jointly by Horizon (MalayalaManorama) and Fortune IAS Academy, Kerala’s leading IAS preparation centre. Students were able to interact with Mr.Ananth Chandrasekar ,IPS officer regarding how to prepare for civil service examinations. All doubts and queries were cleared.
2. Webinar on CA, CFA and CMA was conducted for commerce students (11 and12)Lakshya gave a comprehensive coverage on the syllabus, prospects and also cleared doubts of the students regarding exams and career prospects.
3.All about CLAT, IPM and CUET exams was organized by Achievers conclave for all sections of 12th.The webinar dealt with new entrances for Delhi university, IIM’s and Law.
4.Careers of the future with specific reference on courses offered by Ashoka University, Gurgaon,a premier deemed University of India.
5. Webinar on Tech Bee: HCL, new initiative lay HCL Technologies, which gives +2 students training for software Engineer immediately after school. This is a novel initiative where Industry meets school. Students are trained as software Engineers with a stipend of Rs.18000 per month.
Carrier classes for 12th standard Science and Commerce students were completed by the end of November. Follow up Career Counselling for students was also completed by December.
Orientation cum Awareness Programmes – 2022
The first in the series was on the 14th of July by Rev Arun Thomas, for Class 11 parents titled “Evolving Lives and Involving Lives”. Our School CounsellorMrs.Hannah held a talk on the consequences of Drugs on June 26th.Dr Arun B Nair, Department of Psychiatry, Govt Medical College addressed Class 11 and 12 students on exercising “Healthy Choices for a progressive life” amidst the various challenges posed before them on the 6th of October. Advocate Anitha representing the District Legal Services Authority enlightened the students of Classes 8,9 about their rights and legal aids/services on the 8th of November. She also shared her experiences with the victims of Drug Abuse, Cyber Crimes and Domestic Violence. Shri Anand V.S conducted a session on Cyber Awareness on the 1st of December.
