Value Education

Value Education classes are conducted once a week. Enrichment courses and training cum workshops are also held to aid students. Teenage care programs are also organized frequently.

School Magazine

The School Magazine, “The Pinnacle -2022-23” is the outward expression of the student’s creativity and originality. It is a reflection of their thoughts and an outlet for their feelings. English, Hindi and Malayalam are given equal importance. Apart from “The Pinnacle”, there is also the individual class magazine for Std. I to XII . These magazines are edited, printed and published by the students. Four Awards are given at the Annual Day Celebrations for the Best Class Magazines – for the Primary, Upper Primary, High School and the Higher Secondary Sections.

Various Clubs and Houses (Blue, Green, Violet and Yellow)

Various co-curricular activities are organized in the school with the objective of the all- round development of the pupils. The students are provided ample opportunities for exhibiting skill in sports, arts, games and other activities. To promote a healthy competition, the entire school population has been divided into four houses: – Blue, Green, Violet and Yellow – each led by a teacher and a set of selected students. Eighteen Clubs, catering to the aptitude of the students function in the school. The clubs are very active and the children are taught the basic skills by the concerned clubs. The activities incorporated in the Academic Calendar on behalf of the Maths, Painting, Work Experience, Home Science and Eco clubs, did boost the morale of our students.

Social Service League

Members visit orphanages and homes and distribute clothes and study materials to the poor.

N.C.C.

The National Cadet Corps Unit, which functions in the school, gives emphasis to general service knowledge and aero modeling. Cadets are being prepared to appear for the A- Certificate Examination.

Summer Courses

Come summer and St. Thomas gears up to welcome the students who choose to spend the vacation in pursuit of adventure, hobbies and exploits in new fields. The summer courses organized by the St. Thomas Schools cover areas like Personality Development, Spoken English, Sports and Games, Music, Art and Craft, Animation and even special coaching for Science Talent Search Examinations. The fun-filled days packed with exciting activities are a welcome change from the tension-filled exam days of the third term.

School Protection cum Disaster Management Committee

The Committee for the year comprising the  Principal, Headmistress, Mrs Anita John, PTA representatives, Advocate Dany J Paul, Mr Shibu Scaria,  Sub-Inspector, Sudheesh Kumar, D Mr Anilkumar P.S (Excise Department) Karunakaran Nair( Transport) Smt Kasthuri M S,Ward Councillor, Mrs Shalini Sasi, Mr Harikumar, Mr Benny Mathew, Smt Ranichandra, PHC, Chettivilakom met on 24th June. Updated medical guidelines to curb Dengue, Influenza other seasonal diseases, better traffic regulations in and out  the premises of the school, promoting Campaigns against addictions of all forms, social media, Gaming, Substances,  alerting the consequences of riding  Two wheelers  without License, promoting better hygiene in the campus etc were discussed at length. The Committee decided no stone would be left unturned, in insulating students from all unforeseen evils rampant in the society.

PTA Meetings

It is a matter of pride and joy that our school has been the beneficiary of a robust and proactive PTA year after year. Exclusive sessions were held for parents of classes 1 to 12 and the Executive Committee formed thereafter. The office bearers of the Executive Committee assumed charge electing Mr. Shibu Scaria as the President, Mr. Ali Afzal as the Vice President, Smt. Chithra V S as Mother PTA, Shri. Justin Rajan. N the Secretary and Smt. Shalani Sasi as Treasurer of the current Academic Year. The most impactful contribution for the year was an advanced high quality sound system for the open stage thereby enabling us to hold regular assembly sessions. The dedication, teamwork and enthusiasm displayed by our PTA team all through the year in building better workplace relationships, discussing educational issues, resolving conflicts, promoting student reform initiatives has indeed contributed positively to our student growth.

STHSS Youth Festival – 2023

An ambience of cheer descended upon our campus when the entire school gathered in the open stage for the Youth Festival 2023-2024, inaugurated by Mr. Biju Kalavedi, a renowned film artist on July 26th. Youth Festival events were held on the 26thand 27thof July 2023. Red House bagged the first prize.

40th Annual Athletic Meet 2023

The Marthoma Stadium became vibrant on the 9th and 10th of August 2023, with our students competing in a variety of events for the 40th Annual Athletic Meet. Miss. Tiji Raju, Sri. Udayakumar Memorial awardee 2016 for the best volley ball player in India, declared the meet open following a colourful parade by the NCC, Band and the four Houses. Our Treasurer, Shri. Cherian Varghese delivered the keynote address followed by a heartwarming message by Miss. Tiji Raju, Guest of the day. Our Secretary, Mr. Mathew George was the guest for the closing ceremony. Green House bagged the first prize. The event embodied the zeal, talent and spirit of sportsmanship of the students!!

Revival of School Band

Our School Band could make a comeback with due support extended by our Secretary and Treasurer . A new junior team is getting trained under the supervision of Mr. J. Vincent, the Band Instructor.

Independence Day -2023

The 77th Independence Day Celebrations was hosted by our school at Mar Thoma Stadium on 15th August 2023. The Chief Guest for the day was Shri. Achuth Sankar, Director, Centre for Bioinformatics, University of Kerala. It was celebrated with much enthusiasm and jubilation. All the three schools participated in the March past. Various programmes like Patriotic band performance, display and patriotic dance were held.

Onam Celebrations – 2023

Onam, the Harvest festival of Kerala was celebrated in the campus with much gaiety and warmth on August 25th in the open stage. The Chief Guest Sri. Gireesh Pulliyoor, the renowned poet and artist, enthralled our students with his captivating message and talk. The Boat Song sung in the background of the Snake Boat, the traditional Chenda Vadhya Melam, Musical Band, the melodious singing of Onam numbers by teachers and students, Musical chair, Tug of War, the intricately decorated ‘Pookkalam- Niravu ’ , everything put together reflected a perfect cultural ambience for the day.

All Kerala Quiz for the Secretary’s Trophy – 2023

The All Kerala Quiz Competiton for the Secretary’s Trophy proved an engaging, interactive and intellectual forum for the thirteen city schools with the quiz master Dr. Shafi Thomson quizzing the target audience in his self composed, fine tuned manner. 6 teams made it to the finals. St. Thomas Residential School, Mukkolakkal lifted the coveted trophy on September 13th . Sarvodaya Central Vidyalaya, Nalanchira and St. Mary’s Central School, Poojapura bagged second and third positions. The winners were awarded the trophy by our Treasurer Shri. Cherian Varghese.

Annual School Exhibition -2023

Going beyond the confines of the class room, The Annual School Exhibition held  on the 30th  of October 2023, exhibited the brilliance of creativity of our students in Social Science, Mathematics, Science, Art and Craft categories.

Anti-Drug Campaign

An awareness programme was convened by the Narcotics Club on 26th June, 2023 in connection with the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking.
The session was led by Dr.P.K. Sreekumar, Deputy Drug Controllor (RTD), Kerala. Mr. Baiju A, Inspector of Police , Mannanthala Station, also shared his views. A seminar along the same lines was organised by the Central excise and Customs for our students on the 9th of August.

Fr. Tittu Thomas organized a session on Mobile Addiction – Issues and Remedy for Class IX students on the 31st of October.

KERMUN 2023

A team of students participated in Kerala Model United Nations (KERMUN ) 2023 conducted by St Thomas Central School on September 30th and October 1st, an enriching platform, through which our students got acquainted with global concerns and honed their diplomacy and negotiation skills. Picnics, Visits and Club Activities – 2023

The Higher Secondary Students participated in Heights 2023 , Kerala University Researchers’ Fest, at Kariavattom campus, from June 19th to 22nd, which showcased a unique congregation of Industrialists and Eminent personalities from diverse knowledge domains.

In connection with World Space week, a talk on Space was led by Mr. Nallaperumaal, senior ISRO Scientist on 5-10-2023 at Juhanon Auditorium.

Class 10 students also visited Space Museum, VSSC, Thumba and witnessed the Rocket Launch on 6.10.2023.

Our students distributed 632 food packets (60 sponsored by our staff) to the cancer patients of Regional Cancer Centre on 17-11-2023.

Class 12 students attended the IISER Trivandrum Open Day, an opportune day to visit the research Labs, the Science Expo and participate in the day’s Quiz. Christy George Jacob and Ajay Krishna of XIC stood second , Sreesanth C R and Ihsaan S Shiju of XIA, secured third.

Classes 1 to 4 had a day well spent at Lullu Mall on the 27th of September.

Keraleeyam

Each class imbibed the spirit of Keralappiravi in its true essence and unravelled the journey of the land, its history, culture, art and literary history, language through meaningful assembly sessions.

Children’s Special Service Mission (CSSM)

Volunteers from CSSM held their regular sessions for our students of classes 5 to 12. 10 of our teachers collaborated with the Academic Committee MTCES and scripted Value education lessons , across Primary ,Secondary and Higher secondary levels.

Children’s Day Celebration

Children’s Day Celebration was unique this year, Alina P Kunnath( Class 5) was the Chacha Nehru on stage this time. Our children performed several variety entertainment programmes like Group Dance, Group Song, Solo Music etc and made the day unforgettable by paying tribute to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru , the first Prime Minister of India. Live Jam, a social youth movement providing value based self developmental programmes through the medium of Music in the open stage of our school.

Counselling and Career Guidance, two integral services of our school offer extensive support in the overall development of our students. The School Counsellor Mrs Hannah  equips our students in dealing with the academic, social ,personal pressures in life and develop realistic, academic and personal goals through regular Life Skill sessions.   

Orientation cum Awareness Programmes

Rev. Sajesh Mathew, took the Orientation class for Class 11 students and parents based on the topic ” Don’t Fail in Life – Your Future is determined by Your Choices” on 14th of June 2023. On October 26th, Mrs Hannah Moncy attended Balamithra Training module in connection with Leprosy Awareness conducted by PHC, Chettivilakom. The UDISE Phase 2 Training, conducted by Urban Resource Centre, Pettah was attended by Mr Murali and Mr Subin Kurian.

Social Responsibilities

One discovers one’s true self in the service of others. Keeping in tune with the quote, our students Ashina E B and Athira B S of class X collaborated with RCC in the distribution of Pothichoru on 16th November. An overwhelming response from our parents helped us share 650 homecooked, lunch packets for the needy.

Class 12 students spent a day with the inmates of Shalom orphanage, under the guidance of Mr Shiji Das.

40th Annual Day 2023-2024

40th  Annual Day (2023-2024) of our school was held on 27th  November 2023 at 4.30 pm. The Annual Day function was inaugurated by Chief Guest Shri. N P Giri , Former GSLV Project Director- ISRO, Government of India. The Secretary of MTCES, Shri. Mathew George, the School Chaplain and Boarding Superintendent, Rev. Mathew K John, PTA President, Mr. Shibu Scaria, Principals and heads of other sister institutions of MTCES graced the occasion by their presence. The Chief Guest along with our Secretary and School Chaplain gave away prizes for the school toppers of 2022-2023 and other prize winning students. The Annual Report of the academic year 2023-24 was presented by Principal Dr.(Mrs) Lizu Verghis. Our Principal, presented a momento to the Chief Guest designed by Smt. Priya A P (Arts and Crafts teacher). Students of STHSS made us proud by performing dance, skits, drama and other variety entertainment programs. The conveners of the school day program Smt. Manjula Devi and Smt. Anila Mathew along with all Staff worked hard to make the function a great success.
